From the end of 1921, when the work of scorching the battlefields was finally closed down and no visible signs of 150- Inted graves remained, to the end of 1934, no fewer than 35,530 British graves have been found and moved into cemeteries. The total number of names registered In June, 1931, was 1,164.200. Of this num- ber 507,117 had been identifed and burled In known graven, while B17,773 wern re- corded as "Missing". Of this number, however, 180,101 were "Missing" only a technical sense; they had been found but not identifled, and were buried un "Unknown" The names of the “Mising" appear on memorials, and they include these lying in "Unknown" graves.

In his younger days, Capi. Thorn- bill was a keen sportsman and was known as one of the best sportsmen in Hongkong. He is survived by his widow, two married daughters, one of

whom is in England, and a son, who ian cadet in the Hongkong Naval

Volunteers Force.

The funeral takes place to-day, passing the Monument at 5.30 pan. No flowers by request.
