Nitro-Glycerine Explosion Devastates London Outskirts

MILES OF HOUSES, works and green-houses were rocked, smashed and made windowless by the nitroglycerine explosion at the Royal Gunpowder Fac- tory, Waltham Abbey, Essex.

Above (left) you see one of the injured men being taken from the Royal factory, and above is a view of nearby greenhouses in which 5,000 panes of glass were shattered by the blast of air which followed the explosions.

Torrific Bombardment On Shayuchung

Walchow, Apr. 14. Another terrifle aerial bombard ment was carried out yesterday afternoon in Shayuchung, Kweichung, and Tilfuk, areas, south-west of Wai- chow.

At 10.15 am a squadron of five Japanese naval planes took to the air from warships in Blas Bay and flew over Shayuchung where they releas- ed a number of bombs and sprayed the town with machine-guns. Later, the squadron bombed Kweichung and Titfuk, and scouted over Tamshul, the gateway to Walchow. During s two hours fight over Po On and Walchow, over forty bombs were
