The Rev. F. E. Walls, the Aus- tralian Chaplain of the Seamen's In- stitute In Kobe, who was arrested with two other Britons in January and imprisoned by the Japanese Police for 37 days, passed through Hongkong during the week-end on his way back to Melbourne aboard a Brush steamer.

Regarding his Imprisonment, the Rev. Mr. Watts, who has been long resident in Kobe, sald he was re-s luctant-to-speak through fear of re- prisals upon foreigners stil in

Japan.

With his wife; Mr. Watts is re- turning to Melbourne and will not return to Japan. He said the two Lotter foreigners were still held by

the Japanese Police.

The Police refused to state thei reason for their action until Mr. Watts' detention was at an end: it is understood that the arrest was con nected with charges of violation of exchange regulations.

Also returning to Australia aboard. the sume steamer was the Austro- Jian Trade Commissioner to Japan, Lieut.-Col. E. Longfleld Lloyd, said that he made a number of pro- tests on behalf of the Australian Government regarding Mr.
