NEW YORK, Mar. 14 (Domei).-A Washington despatch to the "New York Times” says that the laying down of the new 45,000-ton battleship Iowa, the first super battleship to be constructed by the American Navy in excess of the Washington Treaty limits, has been delayed.

Modifications in its plan have become necessary in view of recent trends in the European war.

According to the report, the new battleship will be laid down on June 15 and will not be com- pleted until 1944.

Sweeping changes have taken place in the original plan, especially in that part affecting the interior below the waterline in view of the heavy dam- by H.M.S. nge allegedly sustained Royal Oak and other ships in torpedo attacks.
