Judge Don't After

Tells Veteran : Worry, I'II Look the Family

TWO soldiers went to court in England recently to tell the judges of the plight

their wives and families through rent arrears.

At Brentford County Court Judge Drucquer said to Private William Stubbs: "Don't you worry. While you are abroad I'll look after them."

Stubbs told the Judge: "I am an old soldier, aged 51, and when I volunteered in Septem- er I did think my family would have to suffor.

IN

'EMPTY' COUNTRY

By PAUL BEWSHER, with the B.EF,

TWO British airmen flew for 21⁄2 hours over German territory at 15,000ft. in u cloudless sky. Not a Aghter 'plane came up to meet them, not an A.A. gun was fired.

They flew over hundreds of miles of roads. They were bare of any trattle. They flow over hundreds of miles of railway lines. Not a single train was

seen.

The airmen-a 23-years-old scr- geant-pilot und a sergeant-observer -returned only when their film had run out.

They brought back a perfect pic- torial record of their amazing flight. They were summoned to B.E.F. head- quarters and congratulated on "an exceptionally brilliant reconnais- sance."

1

I heard from the airmen their own story

"For 20 minutes we cruised to and fro above a camouflaged aerodrome behind the Siegfried Line," said the. observer.

"Our photographs of it, taken by an electrically operated camera, show that there was a squadron of Messer- schmitt fighters on the ground. Yet not one rose to attack wi
