DEREK GLOVER, 25- years-old lance-corporal in the Royal Engineers, wants to be a war-artist.

That is why, he visited the War Office, was ushered into the most hallowed room in the build- ing, and was given a ten-min- utes silting in his oflice by ' General Sir Edmund Ironside, Chief of the Imperial General Staff.

He is the first junior N.C.O. to have that honour.

Lance-Corporal Glover Was busy on the portrait at his home in Surrey (he has a wife and two-years-old baby). He had previously done an oil painting from memory and from photographs he had applied for the sitting morely to com- plete it accurately.
