What is the best tile dress you ever owned?

Mine is my simple-very simple- black day dress which leis me "play It up" with a gay chiffon scarf, or a large inexpensive, but costly-looking. brooch, or my special, rather barbar- uus necklace (mnde, I think, from gilded huttons), to say nothing of the conventional, but always right, string of pearls I affcel,-

The vilhouette has been brought up

to date with to-day's 'walatline and slight flare emphasised.

This is the simple dress which changes little from season to season the "tle dress" we all long for but so seldom find.

I'd like to call this a "Five in One" pattern but it's really a four-in-one dress with a choice of two necklines.

One, the heart-like neckline, is illustrated in the full-gure sketch. The other, the simple round straight-across-the-throat line, is the grandest neckline for your string of bends or brooch or clip.

As you see, the frock in the full- figure sketch is the ideal nine-to-six o'clock dress. Add to it the peplum, a sort of frill round the waist (sketch 2), which is simply attached to its belt and hooked on, and you've at once changed it to a slightly dresay afternoon frock.

Then we come to sketch 3. Here you have a plastron, an ornamental front, which entirely covers heart-shaped or round neck (wh! - ever you make), and gives you an. accessory you can play with

fi's the kind of accessory you like to add when you feel you can live up to it. You know what I mean-a special lunch party a matinee or an after- noon out.

We do want our after-six-o'clock dresses to have that little "some- thing which day wear lacks. So our designer has given us the bustle buck - in sketch 4.

In velvet on wool, It would be per-. fect. For me, I'll have satin-backed romaine, the dull romaine surface for the dress, and the sain side for the plastron and bustle-back acccs- sorica.

For size thirty-six bust, you can make the foundation frock (that is, from the frock without accessories) 334 yards of 30in. material or 2 Add half yards of 54in, material,

Raisin and Walnut Loaf SULTANAS may be used instead of raisins in this recipe for fruit 'nut bread

Ingredients: 2 cupfuls flour, 1 cpo, 1 cup- ful milk, culful sugar, I salt, mace, 2 teasp, baking powder, 1⁄2 teasp. salt, 24. cupful shelled walnuts, cupful chopped raisins or sultanas,

Beat egg, add sugár and beat again. Sift baking powder, flour, niace and salt to- gether. Add raisins and chopped walnuts, Stir in flour mixture alternately with the milk, to the eggs and sugar. Turi gently into a well-buttered loaf iin, and stand in a warm place for 20 minutes to rise.
