May Have Been Sunk
London, Jan. 26, Thic Naval authorities strongly auspect the German announcement of changing the name of the Deutsch- and as hiding the fact that the vessel has been sunk by British sub- marine. They recall that the sub-. marine Salmon attacked a number of German warships in December but never actually saw the ships sunk or · damaged.
At the same time the Sulmon's commander said that in addition to a
warship sunk he believed that one or more others were damaged.
It is now suspected that although it jy lack of sub- is admitted there stantiation, it is possible the Deutsch- land was lost in this mnaner.. Ati- ollier possibility is that the three sub- marines sunk this month may have made a successful attack before run- ning foul of German depth charges.
pointed out as a fact that members of the crew were rescued, which shows that the German ship was near the scene and it to logical to suppose that one or other of the British submarines attacked the German craft, thus revealing her own position and incurring a successful counter-attack.
