Why Nazis Have Sent Their Old Men To Front

The National-Sozialistische Korrespondenz, the Nazi news agency, has circulated in the German press an article by Captain H. von Rosenthal on the question why men of forty, who went through the Great War, have been sent to the front by the German Government. He writes:

In view of the experience of the [00 world war, the use of incompletely trained soldiers in action is now strictly prohibited. In this war the only mea sent

Into action and the only men who are being sent are those who have been prepared for their responsible duty by careful and thorough training. This enabled the Pollsh'empolgn to be carried to sue- cess without important losses.

The strict adherence to this princi ple is one of the reasons why in mo- | bilising extensive calls were made on the older men, who had been in thei world war. The war experience of | the ex-soldier

of the world war, his example DA a comrade. and his perfect balance between soldier- ly courage and circumspection have sved the young army from

frent deal of blood- shes. It is thanks to the ex-soldier that the losses have been so striking- ly small. Things that are not to be Teamed in the most careful peace-. tline training have been learned by] the young soldier, apart from his own experience, from listening to the man of forty, his older comrade, whe has now been marching for the second time over foreign territory with his rifle on his shoulder. And: in the mental crisis of the first ex- perience of war the young recruit has often much found support in the superior coolness of the experienced dgbter.

Inequality Of Treatment

Now, however, the ex-soldiers of 1984-18, most of whom have impor- tant civil nccupations to attend to, are being gradually demobilized. Tais naturally takes time, and more time in some cases than in others: "In the case of certain special troopa dependent on technical training it may take several months, so that there will inevitably be cases of | hardship".

Another instance of apparent in- equally of treatment, says Captain von Tsenthal, is that of the young men who volunteered for service but have not yet the satisfaction of being in uniform. They will be called upon in due course, but the training units are limited and cannot take: every willing recruit in hand at once. "The existing human reservoir per- mits Foresight, well-regulated planning and economical use of the Texisting reserves. Therein les our

xtrength No other people has this inf common with the Gerrans."

The German officer proceeds t support this interesting conclusion by an imaginative account of French perplexiles. What of the British? ile says nothing; he leaves us gues5- ing.

Hitler Youth In The Air

Df war

According tel. the "Volkischer Beobachter," the "Flieger-11.J.." or Hitler Youth aviation group, will continue during the war to fuint is! task of providing aviation reserves." In four years the Flieger-11.J. has been built up into body of 100,000 young airmen in the making. The corps leader of the Nazi Aviation Corps has ordered that for the pur- pose of the close collaboration be- tween the group and the corps the techulral service which was largely suspended at the outbreak shall be resumed wherever possible and that every oppurtunily of train- ing shall be used. The training is long and very thorough attention is being concentrated at present on the youths of 16 and 17 years of age.

The theoretient Instruction nf course, includes discussion of the suc- cess of our air arm. The good re- sults so far achieved in the technical training of the Hitler Youll aviators: are evident from the tests passed, in which faultless fights of twenty seconds to more than five minutes are required. Of the Hitler Youth aviators some 30,000 have passed the
