PONY PERFORMANCES DURING 1939
TRIUMPHANT DAY & ROSE ELECT HEAD STAKES WINNERS
IN 1939 there were 50 events confined to the Australian ponies, but one would hardly believe that no track figure has been fowored during the whole racing season.
Strathroy owned by Mr. J. F. Macgregor is the pre- sent record holder of the fastest time over five furlongs, a mile, a course from the two mile post (once round and in), 14 miles and 1% miles. It is interesting to recall that Strathroy attempted to stage a comeback (after an ab. sence of five months) in the Brisbane Spring Handicap run on May 6, but the record holder failed miserably in a field of four runners. After this outing Strathroy has not been seen in public and it is rumoured that the wonder pony is on pension.
However Mra. Taggart's | Lancashire Chips still holds the record of à distance from the 11⁄2 mile post, while Courting

glad to see from the draft pro- gramme of the 1940 Annual Roge Meeling the inclusion of "placed ponies of a flat race at the Club's pont Extra Race Meetings during the second half of 1939 senson."""
With this additional clause in the condi- tions of the Australian Ponies Cham- plors to be contested on February 24, Lucky Lad is now eligible for the classic even should he be unplaced at the Annual Carnival.
