Recreio Deservedly Beat Nomads: R. Engineers' Test On Sunday Next

THERE WERE NO WOMEN'S league games last Saturday, but in a friendly played at the Y.M.C.A. ground, the “Y” Ladies gained an easy victory over the C.B.A. Ladies by five goals to one. The home team included four roservos in their line-up, and had the forwards taken their chances the score would have been doubled.

In a Tournament game last Sunday, Recreio beat the Nomads 2-0 on their home ground. On the same day the new Khalsa Sikh team was seen in action when they beat the C.B.A. 1-0.

Mrs. Gardnor and Miss B. | Harker, in the "Y" attack, com- bined cleverly, and Mrs. Burnett put in some good runs on the right-wing. Mrs. Strange and ; Mrs. Stone, as usual, shared the, bulk of the "Y" defence, but Miss Stokes, as pivot, also gave i A useful display; with more **experience she given every promise of making a good half-buck. Belter foam work was seen in the second half than in the first.

Playing without a goal-keeper, the CBA. defence had a gruelling thre in the second half, and Miss Parsons,

■ a kicking back, saved the side from a heavy defent. However, the defence with Miss I. Woolley, Miss P. Everest and Mrs. Wilmott, fought gamely up to the Anal whistle, and any good movements by the "Y" forwards were broken up.

Mrs. M. While, who has only just returned from a holiday in England, revealed fine click-work at centre- forward. and was the only live-wire in the visitors' attack. Mrs. Quick, the inside-left, worked hard but her passing was weak. Mrs. White will certainly be of great value as leaderį of the attack, but the C.B.A, are sti in need of a goal-keeper.

YESTERDAY EVENING

the Club ground, the Police just managed to save the day through a late try scored by Dempsey after being 3 points down until in the last five minutes.

The game was essentially one between the two hard working packs, with the ball seldom getting further back than the stand-off halves through slow heeling and quick breaking up of the forwards,

Wheeler was outstanding in the Police pack, which did extraordin arily well in foot rushes, and gave Thomson no time in which to gel the ball out to Charter. The result be- ing that Chorier had either to make In swift kick is touch or break away

Luscombe, at the base of the scrum for Pollee, was likewise embarrassed aimculty in fielding his wild passes. and when he did pass out Leslie had

Taylor, on the Police wing, was seldom in action, and generally found

himself crowded out, with a kick to touch his best move.

Wall was again in splendid form for Police, and dealt with every ball to the best advantage. Walkden, who also turned out at full-back for the Club, was instrumental in holding up numerous dribbles by the Force.

POOR HANDLING

VAN LEEUWEN was in action on Club's left wint more than Lavalle. The latter received few good passes from Taylor, whose handling was poor, although he in turn received few good passes. Reynold, of Police and opposite Van Leeuwen, although seldom sten is attack, was kept busy In keeping the bustling Van Leeuwen In check.

In the incouts Stout did well for Club, and hnd more success than Dempsey, Police expert in this department. Any advantage that Stout gained was generally sel-off by the good marking of the Police eight, which got round to present a quick bcel.

In the set scrums. Salter hooked well, but only to find that his men were shoved off the ball or else good scrumming by the heavier and hard- working Police pack prevented a quick clean heel.

Burford worked hard nt wing forward for Club, especially in instigating wheels.

SCORELESS HALF

AFTER A SCORELESS Arst half, Charter kicked ahead a ball which did not rise and caught the Follce back division going in the wrong way. He followed up and scored well out. Castleton failed with the ki.ck.
