A large portion of the Chinese employees of the Asiufle Petrole mi Company, leading British oil koneurn, are at present on strike owing to dissatisfaction over wages, especially as regards their rice allowance.

The demonstration includes clerks, loys and coolies in the Company's olice on the Bund and it also affects one of the Company's depots. The foreign staff, together with several yal Chinese, continue to work, but the normal office routine has, been virtually nt standstill since 11.15
