Nell Gwynne Relics For Sale

THE receipt for the garters which encircled the limbs which enchanted a Klapit sounds like the House that Jack Built, but it is actually a lot in the sale Sotheby's held on December 20 of the Crofton Croker Collection of Nell Gwynne relics.

Many of the lots are pictures of the great courtesan. Several show Nell with a lamb, some with her children.

There were also pictures of Nell's rivals in the affections of the King-- Barbara Villiers Castlenuine, Duchess of Cleveland (spelled Cleaveland) and Louise (speliat Louize) de Querounlle, Dutchess of ports. mouth.

£5,000 PENSION

The rent of the rollection consists of documents: a warrant to pay Nell ond quarter's pension-£1.250-she drew £5,000 a year-igned by Clarendon; a warrmt ta pay £250

HITLER FINDS THAT STALIN IS

WORSE THAN OLIVER TWIST!

Stalin, not content with get- ting his strategic positions in the Baltic, is now pressing Hitler for preferential rights of passage through the Kiel Canal to the North Sea.

Reason given is that indis- criminate sowing of Nazi mines in the Kattegat is endangering Soviet ships. Real reason — Stalin now sees his chance to take the first step in making Kiel an international waterway providing a cheap outlot for Russian Baltic trade.

: This demand is one reason for the furore now going on be- hind closed doors in the Wil- helmstrasse. Admiral Raedor, Navy Chiof, and his staff are revolting.
