THE receipt for the gartera which encircled the limbs which enchanted a King-it sounds like the House that Jack Built, but it is actually a lot in the sale Sotheby's held on December 20 of the Crofton Croker Collection of Nell Gwynne relics.
Many of the lots are pletures of the great courtesan. Several show Nell with a lamb, rome with her children.
There were also pictures of Nell's rivals in the afcetions of the King- Barbara Villers Castlemaine, Duchess Cleaveland) of Cleveland (spelled and Loule (spelled Louize)
of Purts- Queroualle, "Dutchesse" mouth.
