EXCELLENT GAME ON CLUB GROUND
Civil Service C.C. Win: Richardson and Pearce
In
Fine Batting Form
CONTRARY to my expectation, there was an excellent day's cricket on Saturday last, al- though there were several absontoos in Camp..
The whole day match against the Civil Service at the H.K.C.C. ground was a most successful affair, though I think there were three members of the second eleven in cluded in the Club side. T. E. Pearce made a welcome, reappearance, and batted in his usual excellent style. AS either Ride nor Kilbee had
been able to get away early Alec Pearce went in first, and the family partnership was most Buccessful as the half-century was hoisted without loss. At 56, however, Alec Pearce played to glance a ball on the leg side, and was taken at the wicket. It is probable thut it actually louched his pada and not his bat the fielders on the leg side thought hirn not oul-but it is one of the most difculi of decisions. In the straight forward catch at the wickel tha umpire can and must-rely upon flection more than sound. But on deflection may come En lng side either from bat or pads.
Pearce hind played watchful and excellent cricket, as he is not used to going in irst, and had restrained his game a bit. I heard it sold it was belter erlekel than the first fifty of his century the week before.
