BRILLIANT WEATHER coupled with excel- lent racing was responsible in certain measure for. a large attendance, which witnessed the running of the Kwangtung Handicap for "D" class China ponios over the mile course, at Happy Valley last Saturday.

There was a big “last minute" rush at the counter of the cash sweep department for the special dollar lottery conducted on the event, and, ́as a result, the sale amounted to a colossal figuro of 183,000 tickets.

The lucky drawer of chance No. 141,390, which drow Royal Highness with Mr. V. V. Needa in the saddle, received a lovely sum of $77,884.80 being the first prize. The second was $22,252.80 while the third got $11,126,40.

APART from the interest shown in the special lottery, the dollar cash sweep on other events was well patronized by the public. In the opening race the prize was $1,898.40, while in the penultimate event the first prize was worth $4,624.20 for a two-dollar ticket.

INTERPORT SERIES BRINGS $2,419 TO ASSOCIATION

PROSPECTS aro bright for an extremely successful backey season this year in the Shanghai Ladies Hockey League, reports the N.C.D. News, as there will be at least twelve teams, including three new clubs, who will be taking part in the competition, accord- ing to plans revealed at the recent annual meeting of the Shanghai Association.

Though the number of entries is not as high as that last year, when there were seven teams in the "A" Division and eight in the "B" Division, the six teams expected in each division this season should provide some very keen competition.

The need for qualified um- pires and conches was reiterated.

The meeting opened with Mrs. J. P. Van Hengel, President of the Association, in the chair. As no nominations for now officers were sent in to the secetury, last year's body was re-elected en 1030-40 bloc. The officers for the season will be as follows:
