JHOUGHTS IN A QUIET
AWAKENED in the morning feeling that the world was all wrong. Freak storms, thunder, and every kind of queer weather which our country sometimes in- dulges in, had made my head thundery too.
I thought of all the mean things that had been done to me right back to childhood days; remembered all the times when I had been left wih moze than my share of worry and respon⚫ sibility: all the stupid things I had dore, and all the times when I had shirked duly and been selfish and chal- low nd not played up.
I got hotter and hotter, more and more soaked in self pity, more and more disgusted with myself and the world. Then I tumbled out of bed. and before I did anything else, I went out into the garden.
It is such a little one, but there were a few ripe berries to be picked, a few slicks to be put in to support the snap- dragona. The earth steamed after the heavy thunder inin, in the morning sun, every lent was glistening, the rozes were still sweet.
Standing flere I fel all the brooding thoughts slipping away as the rain drups were disappearing in the sun.
Into my mind came the picture of the first man walking with God in the days when the world was a garden, mil wondered how many millions of people alice then had met Him in a garden, and regained their sense of

values and been able to face life again. At holiday tlain there is exim bustle and rush, but all the year round thesO quiet times are needed if we are not to grow feverish and fretful.
People find them in different ways and places. Bome steal into a quiet country church, others go to their own room and "chut the door," athers must climb to the mountain top or meet the wind on the open moor, others fly to the beds and borders with the weeds alway's waiting to be removed and the flowers bringing their message of beauty.
Often I find mine when I'am wash- ing dishes at the open window of the kitchen which looks out on the old church. It stands against the sky, u church with a Saxon foundation.
There, as I do one of the most satis- fying jobs in the world, making things clean and bright again after their use has taken away their gloss"and" shine, I find my fretting and fuming being washed away.
I am ready to begin nnollier day, hoping thing in it there will be at least some gold of help given and duly done. It doesn't matter where or when, somewhere, in some place, there must be the little full, the quiet time, or the soul will shrivel and le

PEACH pink musiin over blue would Be an attractive scheme. A sull- able cot for trimming is made in natural plaited straw on a strong wooden frame, mounted on castors so that it moves easily.
The trimming is simply straight frilis of inulin, made with two-inch wide headings and threaded on elastic, so that they can be removed and washed.
A canopy is not really necessary, but if you would liko one, have a rod with a hook at the top fixed to the back of the cot and drape a rauslin curtain over the hook.

Keeping the ring room tidy is my problem. We have three small boys and no space for a separate playroom.
You might find a carer in the liv
ing room for a small cupboard where they can keep their toys and books. Cupboards in whitewood, fited with theires, can be bought cheaply. and look well if stained and polished to fit in with the general colour scheme in the room,
Make a rule that toys must be put away by the boys themselves before ledtime. It woukl niso be a good plan to give them a table on which they can paint or play games without hav ing to worry about stray paint splashes or data of plasticine,
