Magistrate's Comments On Conduct Of Case

The withdrawal from the caso by Mr. M. A da Silva, counsel for the prosecution, after certain obser- vations by Mr. Edwards of the Cen- trol Magistracy, featured yesterday's hearing of the continuation of the case against three' women;

Cheng Yin-fan, to Suet-ying and Chan Fong, who are charged with con- spiracy to obtain $100 from Shok Chi, merchant, by representing that they were in a position to rent a flat in Queen's Hond Central. They were alternatively charged with obtaining $100 by false pretences.

The prosecution was conducted by Mr. Shen, and Mr. F. 1. Zimmern re- presented Ho and Chan Fong. All defendants at the commencement of the case wero represented by Mr. C. A. S. Runs, who retired from the case on September 28 for pro- Cessional reasons.

Ho Suel-ying was further examin- ed by Mr. Žinüneṛn yesterday. She declared that until she was arrested and charged she did not realise the certousness of the transaction she had entered into with the other defen- dants. She was under the impres- alon that the trannnction เมม 轴 genuke one.

After a few questions, Mr. Silva sald he had nothing more to ask Ho.

Story Not Tented

Mr. Edwards then observed that Ho had told a story which might or might not be true. That could be tested by cross-examination. There were other unsatisfactory features about the ease. It was usual in lengthy cases, where numerous wil- nesses were to be called, for counsel for the prosecution to give an open- Ang, but that had not been done in this case.
