Shanghai, Sept. 17.
WITH victory in the first lawn bowls interport almost within their grasp, Shanghai made a last-minute mis- calculation to deliver the honours to Hongkong who triumphed by 18-17 after the local side were ahead by 17-16 on the 20th end of the interport encounter taking place on the Police Recreation Club green yesterday. The Shanghai skip had the misfortune to dislodge his own wood with the last delivery of the game, thus giving Hongkong two shots as the visiting team were lying first and third. Had Shanghai bowled short with this last wood, a tie of 17-17 would have resulted and another end would have been required to gain a decision.
It was one of those unfortunate twists of fate how- ever, for, had the Shanghai skip succeeded in his intention of carrying the jack to his backwoods, a victory would have been certain for Shanghai and he would have been

Steady play marked Wilkinson, No. 2 for the local four, as one of the outstanding players of the afternoon. He worked hand in glove with his sicip and even in the most difficult situations he was able to carry out Sequeira's intentions.

'Lucky Bradbury' Is Delighted!
Shanghai, Sept. 17. "Naturally I am defizhled with Hongkong's performance in winning this first Interpori Malch, though the ending must Heem rather unfortunate for Shanghal, Josing by a single shut." Dr. B. W. Bradbury, captain and
of the manager triumphant
Hongkong Lawn Bowls Interport Team, stated yesterday while still wearing the flush of victory to a repre- sentative of "The Shanghai Sun- day Times" soon After the Hongkong side had defeated Shanghai by 18-17.
"I must say Hut our oppon- ents played remarkably well under the existing conditions. The rain certainly played the match into our hands an to-day's heavy green is somewhat similar to the greens in Hongkong with which we are familar." con- tinued Mr. Bradbury.
But the successful Hongkong Captain had one more reason to
Hu be pleased with himself, has taken part in six Interpart contexts in lawn bowls and has achieves the enviable record of never having lost one of them. Therefore, he had much at stake yesterday afternoon, but there is will not a blot on his record, though it came very near to It as Shangha! led by 17-10 on the

Only two fours were goined in yesterday's game and on ibe 10th lead, Omar was responsible to a great extent for earning one of them for Hongkong. Though Bradbury opened well tor the visitors with two splendid words almost sitting on the kitty, Wilkinson went une better to cut them both out to give Shanghai the first shot. Madar then sent in a fine draw for the second. Seeing his backwoods well-grouped, Omar trailed the jack right into the midst of three Shanghai woods to score four.
