Courageous was cominis- sioned with the Reserve Fleet in August with a reduced complement of abreraft, and since the opening of hostilities has been performing very good service in protecting ships of the merchant marine against U-boat at- tart. Latest reports indicate, however, that Germany intends to spare the capital since its ultimate capitulation is now merely a matter of time. Foreigners are, by agreement, being given an opportunity to leave.

Soviet troops have swept into Poland along the entire length of the border which Poland carved out of Russia in 1919. All reports now indicate that Polish resistance is virtually at an end and only senitered remains of the army are standing up to the German troops. About a quarter of the Polish forces are sold to be trapped and disintegrating rapidly, white refugees are, pouring into Latvia and Runiania.
