Navy Buy Trawlers For Minesweepers
THE Admiralty, it is said in Hull and Grimsby, have bought 86 modern steam trawlers, which will be converted into minesweepers.
But recently the Admiralty refused to confirm or deny this, after one Grimsby trawler owner had said, “Wo regret. that the step is necessary, but it is in the national interest and we have no option.”
Of the 86 trawlers, 54 will be from Hull and 32 from Grimsby. They are from 160 to 180ft, in length and represent about third of the deep-water fleet, and 50 per cent., of the larger trawlers of the two Humber ports.
