This frock accentuates the hips below an hour-glass waist. It is in white crepe, with cherry velvet ribbon threaded through the horizontally gathered hip- line. The cherry velvet continuce at the fully gathered sleeves. Worn with it are short cherry velvet gloves edged with white lace and velvet shoca mada specially to match. Two feathers in the hair are touched with acquine.

Paris is aiming to take it in and accentuate your hips for afternoon and evening clothes. Shoulders can' go brond with much padding and trim- ming-quite a lot of braid, embroidery, and military epaulettes are to be seen -or remain as nature made them, but your hips should have an outward trend. Madume Chanel, who has put her skirts down to 14in, from the ground instead of the mure general 15in., 18in., or 17in., has de- signed afternoun fracks with narrow belts that go so far as to outline the lip bones. But the side view is almost flat. This means that the tummy and back must be kept well in.

Lucille Paray adds to the apparent hip measurement by putting panniers on her even- ing skirta and qulie a number of dealgores use horizontal drapery round the hip and bust incs.

Chanel even goes so far as to gather the top of a woollen skirt so that I fails slightly loose. Another way of indiging in this trend, of rather providing it, is to thrend a plece of cherry velvet ribbon through the hip-line of a white crepe track.

One of Maurice Rigaud's coats had one of the most hip-accentuating lines I've seen. The cont is black, with a horizontully gathered picée of bright blue material let into the sides and back, just across the hip line. The cont is lined with the same blue and a red bell Buishes it.

A great deal of ingenuity is shown by Chanel, who has designed a number of lovely black evening frocks, mostly la velvet and net-mixed ur nlune with nipped-in waists.

Skirts on these are mostly full, with thick black net over sheath under-slips, and they are sometimes inished with velvet hems. Pieces of jewellery worn with these are lovely and very generous.

Mort notiecuble trend in jewellery is 1, military, and 2, Baroque. Lots of it is lavish- ly bunched together round the throat or beads bung in strings on a single necklet like a plas- tron. These are Chanel's exotic favourite. She even hangs them over the collars of suits. In addition to lavish jewellery there are, for evening, new hend-dresses, which consist of lacquered feathers tipped with sequins.

All this top decoration is countor-balanced by the wide skirts, the hip fulness, and the fact that at the middle is that entertainingly slim waist, cutting, as i were, the picture in
