Jealous of Baby
4
My smail son has had a baby sister for two months now, but nothing wilt induce him to ucar her. He even spends hours wrapping up his possessions tightly in paper and much- knotted string so that "Daby may not have them ever."-liuddersfield. IAM afraid that your five-year-old soning ind things too much his own way hitherto; it is evident that
he is painfully Jealous of the new baby.
I advise you to give him cupboard where he can keep all his own things; but I should put an end to all this parerl-making; na there is something unpleasant about jealousy taken to Auch extremes.
Otherwise treat the whole situation very calmly Indeed and refuse to notien his attitude. Never let him hear you discussing it with other adults.
Trent both children as impartially an possible and see that the buy fins fair share of praise and reasonable pleasures, without giving the impres alon that you are inaking up to him for the arrival of the baby,

fheories they have almost nothing in common and are quite dissiondar in looks. They quarrel so badly that we have very little peace in the home with them.-Glurpow.
AB you have two younger children I advise you to consent to your father-in-law's suggestion that the boy should go to stay with him for a while. He will probably be exceedingly happy on the land na his tastes rum that way and it will certainly give ha twin sister the opportunity of develop ing more quietly, besides affording pence in your hemie.
Do not, however, part these children on the grounds that they could not agree, for any such spoken Idea might arm their relationships in years to come. There can be every hope that they may get on much better together after a definite absence.
"Beephole" hats A Summer Style
By ELEANOR gunn
New York. When good fellows gel together there are usually pretty women and pretty clothes. Now that people are travelling, one gets a pretty tenerat notion of the choice of a cross section of the country. We discover, for in- stance, that travel. Clothes fre no different from any other variety, that they run to navy with white acces sories and that white hats, perishable as they are, nu longer wait for mid- simmer but have gone into netkan in great numbers,
Speaking of white hats, recent re- ports from Paris reveal that Schta- parell has shown "Peephole" hats, Which are thought to be as revolu Honary as her doll's hat. These are for the midseason, carrying on the forward-tilted theme, so that the Crowns perch on the forehead and have transparent brims through which the mannequin sees, since - they are made of rheid, course yell-.. ing. A second divertissement in the why of crowns is the "bird-core erown," where the crown has the oppearance of a birdcage with birds withla in gay plumage.
and
Another interesting ite-up between hat and costume are flowers fruits which match the design of the dress.
Speaking of flowers, there are lovely lower hats worn everywhere. For instance at the spring race meet at Jamalca, Long Island, one smart girl wore a neatly buttoned snugly fitted coat of this season, without bene- fit of collar or lapels. Her flower toque with sash back is definitely the favourite type of millinery worn with tailored costumes. This type is well represented everywhere one sees well-dressed women.

INCE days long gone by, names initials in embroidery have alway given personal possessions an indi- vidual touch. Little girls used to work their name and the dute at the foot of samplers: Grannie worked her initials in cross-stitch, so fine that It could not. be removed without cutting the linen, on : tablecloths and sheets.
Nowadays we use initials as a decoration. for hats and handbags, jumpers and tenis frocks, as well as for marking underclothes and household linens,
Having your name on everything has its practical side. It identifies clothes beyond h doubt, which is specially useful if you happen to be one of a large family. I Have seen sisters squabbling over the ownership of stockings and handkerchiefs when a mark on each would have saved all the argument, to say nothing of wear and tear on mother's nerves.
Marking children's clothes is a good first step towards teaching them idiness and a respect for each other's possesilons.
At home it is a good idea, too, to provide cach member of the family with a coat per for outdoor clothes, and a special peg for towels in the bathroom. Each per could have the owner's name or initial on a label alongside.
Teachers appreciate it when kiddies' school belongings are marked. The name can be written in marking fnk on narrow tape, or you can get, specially woven names.
These are not expensive, and one should be attached to everything the child taken school, such as
the same material. Satin trunks, to MISSING FROM HOME our personal taste, are a triffe effete.

You may prefer to mark hand- kerchiefs with an embroidered Initial or monogram, or a woven Julin) sutched. in one corner..on the wrong side of the hem. It does zare so much trouble and argu- ment when you have to sort out handkerchiefs for a family.
Smart Monograms
Mention of monograms reminds me that embroidered Initials and mono- grams are very fashionable just now for table and bed linen and towels. You can work these yourself. They give a nice individual tough to a plain sheet or tablecloth.
Use fast colour mercerized cotton cr inen embroidery thread for embrol
dering sheets and pillow ensen. On sheets the nano- gram is usually placed in the centre of the turned over lop; it is repeated in smaller size on the corner of each pillow case.
The sketches wil give you an idea of the modern Inonogram,. The letters are usually arranged to fit into a circle, square or oblong. You can try various ways of arranging the initial
letters of your own names on paper and working them into a monogram.. IN

A 'coloured monogram on a white sheet is pretty. and you can work 'It sold in satin stitch or use a fine' cross atitch. Cross stitch looks well on face towels, where the monogram can bo worked into a cross stitch border, tho munogram alone being repeated on the barder of the bath towels.
Colour Schemes
Coloured sheets or towels with the monogram in a contrast will echo tho colour scheme of the bedroom or bath- room. Pale yellow sheets with green monograin are one suggestion, and 1. blue or green monogram looks well on peach towels or sheets. On pale pink you could use a deeper shade of rose. More unusual are' scarlet or black monogram pato yellow. navy blue on pink, nigger brown on pale green. Monograms an tableclethit and nap- kins usually look best embroidered in plain whito. An idea for marking these is to sign your name, using your ordinary signature. lead panell across the corner of the cloth and then embroider it in satin stitch.
The same method of marking is used for the napkins.
