ROME, Aug. 15 (Reuter).-THE newspapers -to-day unitedly declare that the issue of peace or war over Danzig rests with the Democracies, and the newspapers appeal for a pacific solution of the problem.

Signor Ansaldo writing in the "Telegrafo," says the situation is as grave as it was last September. "The German Government will sooner or later feel morally bound to accept the unanimous vote of the Danzig popu- lation manifested in a solemn form. · If, when faced with German annexation, Polish militarists brandish Mr. Chamberlain's blank cheque, we shall arrive at a general

war."

The "Popolo d'Italia" writes; All the problems of Danzig are already solved de facto in a proportion of ninety to ninety-five per cent, and there only remains the symbolical question of a national cost of arms. It should not be difficult to reach a solution, even if it were only a temporary modus vivendi, to lessen tension.
