Representatives of the employers | Canton and the strikers met the Labour Cebu Onteer, Mr. 11. R. Butters, in the latter's office yesterday morning but tailed to reach an agreement. An appointment was made for a further mceling in the afternoon, 'but the representatives of the employees failed to appear.

At the morning's meeting the fol lowing demands were made on behalf of the strikers:

Immediate re-employment of the dismissed employee;

Legal assistance;

Improved living conditions.

A demand for higher woges was also made on behalf of the women workers.

Mr. Butters again pointed out to the people that the case of the dis- missed man could be settled by the Kowloon Magistracy or the Secre- tariat for Chinese Affairs.

The Management of the factory relterated Olidir determination not to accept any of the demands. Negolla- tions are thus in a state of deadlock.

The hunger strike began on Tues- day last, when the Company refused to reinstate an employee who had been dismissed two days previously. It went on until Saturday when police ecuted the strikers from the fac tory premises. ·
