New Soviet Pressure At Sakhalin

·

Tokyo, July 20. A Japanese Navy spokesman volcea grave concern over the "unwarran» table pressure" brought by Soviet authorities to bear upon the Japanese Ashermen in the Northern waters and the Japanese coal and oll concession- alres in North Sakhalin.

The spokesman said that the Soviet pressure against the Japanese fishery interests in the Northern waters, which are guaranteed by treaties is already well known, while the Jo- panese oil and coal.concessions in North Sakhalin are entirely dif- ferent from ordinary concessions be→ cause they are also based upon tres- ties.

The agreements providing for the Japanese oll and coal concessions In North Sukhalia have been conclud-

ed as the result of long, arduous diplomatie_negotiations. He pointed out that Japan has accepted many Soviet demands which she regarded as even unreasonable to conclude the agreements,

Apparently considering that Japan's hands are kept full by the China campaign and the Anglo-Japanese parity in Tokyo, the Soviet Govern- ment plans to repeal the Japanese interests in North Sakhalin entirely.
