FIRST FRUITS. of the Japanese sponsored campaign against Britain became evident yesterday in Tsingtao, the former German naval base which was captured by a joint Anglo-Japanese force in the early stages of the Great War, and which afterwards re- verted to China.

Chinese demonstrators, urged on by Japanese agitators, attempted to storm the British Consulate › during a monster "anti- British" procession through the streets yesterday.

When the demonstrators were prevented from enter- ing the Consulate com- pound, they stoned the buildings, smashing every window and causing con- siderable damage.

In addition to the Consulate, seventeen British firms were vic- tims of the demonstrators, the windows of their business premises being smashed while puppet and Japanese gendar merie looked on without attempt- ing to interfere.
