AUSTRALIA AS NEW MUNITIONS CENTRE

CANBERRA.

The new Minister of Supply, Mr. Casey, announces that the 200 Taurus engines for the first 100 Bristol Beaufort bombers to be built in Australin will be im- ported from Britain. After- wards ho hopes that the engines will be built in Australia.

Mr. Casey believes that Australia may well develop into a permanent source of supply for munitions of all kinds for a British countries east of Suez.

He points out, however, that it will be 18 to 20 months before full air- craft producllon rani be started. In the meantime, about 80 Australian technicians will se sent to the Bris tot neroplane works in England and 20 British experts will be brought to Australia,

Police were stoned by a crowd of about 500 in Central Park when they tried to rescue a toan who was being beaten by the crowd.
