£300,000 FOR BRITISH YOUTH
From King George's Jubilee Trust
SINCE ITS INCEPTION three years ago, King George's Jubilee Trust has distributed £302,000 in providing the youth of the country with better facilities for recreation and self-expression.
Thus the Trust has achieved its decision to spend £100,000 a year for three years, or nearly three times the income that could be forcseen.
At the same time efforts have been made to maintain the fund at its briginal figure, £1,000,000, and the annual report published recently shows that on March 31 the fund stood at £970,000.

A consistently satisfactory feature been the of grant expenditure has amount of local support created.
"Generalisations are dangerous, but In the opinion of the Council it is safe to assume that every pound ex- willpended by them in grants has result- hased in at least a similar amount being found from local resources," it is Blated.

Jeeves Approves Of Degree
au-
THREE GREAT thorities on Shakespeare and sixteenth-century verse, the metaphysical poets and Milton, and Jeeves and Bertie Wooster walked to- gether to receive degrees of Doctor of Letters at Oxford recently.
They were Sir Edmund Cham- bera, Sir Herbert Grierson and Mr. P. G. Wodehouse.
At his villa at Le Touquet
Mr. Wodehouse was somewhat shaken at the summons that reached the sandy, sun-dazzled shores of the French resort from the grey towers of Oxford.
He roused himself from the long chair on which he was reclining In his garden to talk about it.
"FEARED THE WORST"
First ho listened to congratulations. Then he laughed and said: "Very kind of you. But I know you're just as surprised as am. Startled's the word, almost alarmed. It came by post,
"I opened the envelope and out dropped a printed form with tho
name P. G. Wodehouse written on it in ink. Couldn't think what it was at first-feared the worst. Then I read it out aloud, I had to show it round.
"The thing is, they don't say why I'm to get the degree. You see, I don't know.whether they give it just to literary people or to others as well. So I don't know exactly why I'm getting it."
"ALL FOR DIGNITY" There was silence on the line for a moment. P. G. was thinking it over. "Anyway, I'm going over to Oxford for it," he said at length. "It's to be something of an occasion. There is a garden party in the after- noon and a dinner at Christ Church In the evening. I have an invitation to alay with the Vice-Chancellor.", * The reporter suggested that, at any rate, it showed what books the done really read.
"I'm," ho replied. "I've been thinking arout that what my characters will have to say about it all. I should rather think Jeeves would approve t yes, definitely approve. I have to wear a gown that covers all my clothes and I don't think Jeeves would like that, he's o particular about clothes, But, on the other hand, Jeeves is all for proper dignity.
"And there's Bertle Wooster. He wouldn't quite know what to make of it. Be a bit startled, as I am.
"I was never at Oxford, although my brother was there. Nor have I ever written anything about Oxford becouse I don't know much about it. So I shall have all the mare pleasure In my visit. No, Mrs, Wodehouse won't be going with me. She is I staying here."
