CUNNINGHAM INVITED TO MEET WOODERSON
Princeton, June 12, Glenn Cunningham, world famous American runner and holder of the world indoor mark for the mile, has been invited by Princeton University to compete against England's Sydney Wooderson, holder of the world re- cord, at the "Mile of the Century" race to be held on Princeton's track on Saturday.
Sydney Wooderson arrived in New York to-day aboard the erack French
iner Normandie-United Press.
Wooderson's acceptance of the in- vitation had severe repercussions in American sporting circles over month ngo, when the American A.A.A. invitation
British to the A.A.A. was cancelled. Amerien pre- sumably banked on the knowledge that Wooderson would be beaten in this race and, being the star of the British team, a loss of "gate" would resuit.
The
cancellation of the In vitation has resulted in a break in relations between the British and American ruling bodies. Wooderson was, however, not held responsible by the British authorities, as he had accepted the Princcion Invitation! nearly a year ago.
