BABIES

No One To Visit Hers

IN

TN the last three years more than 2,000 people have visited New Zea- land's quadruplets. Now their mother, Mrs. G. Johnson, of Dunedin. has decided to ban all visitors until they are five years old.

"I'm tired of children," she said. "When I see a baby in a pram I'm not even interested in what it looks like. When friends tell me about their babies I scarcely remember if they're boys. or girls.

"That's the result of having four at a time.

"Mine are lovely babies, of course, and I love them with all my heart. But I don't want any more."

Caterpillars Died of Heat In Ice-Box

SIXTY-FIVE caterpillars, sent to Australia in a sealed tin aboard the Imperial Airways flying-bout Champion, which left Southampton recently for Sydney, did not survive the 10,000 mile journey to Can- berra,

The caterpillars, gathered from oak trees, were to multiply and destroy St. John's wort, a weed dan- gerous to sheep.

"We hoped to keep the caterpillars alive by maintaining a temperature of about 40 degrees in the vacuum flask inside the sealed tin," Mr. S.

Counel

Garside, of the Australian for Selentile and Industrial Re

search, said.

To do this," he said, "we placed the box in the ice-box of the flying- bout,, and arranged with Imperial Airways that they should have sup- plies of ice available at the stations where the flying-boat stopped on the

way.

When the tin was opened the maximum thermometer in the vacuum flask showed that at some point dur- ing the journey the temperature had gone up to 70 degrees,"

Mr. Garside, who, is stationed at the Imperial Institute of Entomology, Farnham Royal, is going to try again,
