Evening Fashions Are Fancy Dress

HOW very difficult it is to make a choice this

season from among all tho models and all the different trends of fashion! Ench dressmaking house affirms energetically that his line alono la the right one, the line destined to be the great success of the year.

A sort of agreement has been reached ns for as day dresses are concerned-they are short and full-skirted. But the question of even ing-dress becomes vastly complicated- The most important dressmakers are in direct contradiction with each other.

Schiaparelli and Molyneux show dresses with a strong Directoire and First Empire influence, reminiscent of the fantastically lovely clothes of the Napoleonic belles.

These dresses are very narrow, with the waist just under the arms, sometimes with the skirt slit to the knee.

Molyneux has not hesitat- ed further to emphasise this trend by using materials typi- cal of that epoch; embroi- dered

Eyeful Of Beauty

OT only do eyes reflect the inner world. They reflect also

a good deal of ugliness. The modern world is certainly an uglier place than it used to be: at the same time, civilisation de- mands a high standard of beauty in its women.

You must have noticed how the eyes shine and lighten when looking at something lovely-a sunset, a view, even a fine stage or cinema setting. And the smile which greets something plea- sant to look at is certainly beautifying to the eyes. It follows that anybody whose eyes are not often brightened by looking at loveliness will not find it easy to have a very bright or beautiful. expression; though a woman may achieve something by a lot of "inner beauty" or by creating a sort of synthetic charm.

In simpler times ordinary living was not so ugly as it is now.
