CHENGTU RAIDED BY JAPANESE

Autumn

Election Certain

Two Foreigners

LONDON, June 11.

SIR Douglas Hacking, chairman of the Conserva- tive Party, said to-day that he saw no reason to suppose a general election would be delayed further than the autumn of this year.

It is the general practice in normal times for Parlia- ment to run four years of the allotted fivo, says "Reu- ter's" diplomatic corres- pondent, and in this case the dissolution of Parlin- ment might be expected any time after October 15, when the new register of electors comes into force.

The correspondent adds that there is no reason why the Government should not decide to have an election in the autumn, provided events in the international sphere show signs of returning to normality-Reuter.

120 Boys Stay Away

Sir Robert Kotewall Makes Plea

THE threatened strike by students at the Diocesan Boys' School was carried into effect this morning, when a number of boys failed to answer the roll-call when school assembled.

It was revealed by Mr. G. A. Goodban, the headmaster, that. about 120 over and above the normal number-of students who jare dally absent from school either through illness or other ordinary causes, failed to appear in their classes this morning, although the headmaster pointed out that this did not necessarily mean that all of the 120 were away because they sympathised with the strikers.

Germany's New Reply To Maginot Line

BERLIN, June 11. THE third Une of fortifien»- tions ordered by Herr Hitler Inst October to strengthen the defences between Aix-La- Chappelle and Saarbruecken are now completed according to Herr Todt, who was the con- 'sulting engluter for the

Biegfried Line,

Herr Todt stated that the now fortifications run west of the line connecting Alx-La- Chappelle and Saarbruecken, while the two earlier lines of fortifications are situated on the eastern side.

Herr Todt added that the "new line was particularly heavily armed. It is especially strong, and additional bulwarks have, in the meantime, been added to the fortifications from Santbruecken to Basle." Renter.
