Gas Masks Burned

Belfast, May 30. Irish Nationalists on Whit-Monday night in the streets of Belfast burned more thun 700 gas innsks.

The Nationalist action completely surprised the authorities and ended with shots being exchanged between the demonstrators and the pollee. On Monday an illegal broadcast sta tion of

the Irish Nationalists had asked the members of the Irish Re- nublican army to collect gas-masks and to burn them publicly. There- fore members of the Irish Republican systematically searched the army houses for gas-masks, made a pile in the streets, poured petrol over it and burnt it.
