An impressive funeral service and procession was held recently for Chief Detective Inspector Drau Ping- sen, of the French Municipal Police in Shanghal, C. D. L.Dzag was murdered by gunmen outside his home in the French Concession. Detachments of the French Muntoipal Palice and the French Forces, both milliary and naval, took part in the long funeral procession. Displaying an excellent organization to cope with any emergency the authorities of the two foreign areas in Shanghai mobilized almost all their man-power recently to carry out cliy-wide searches and guard duty, Barbed wire barricades were thrown across most of the roads on the boundary of the Settlement and those thoroughfares which were left open, were heavily guarded and everyone passing through was submited to search. The Fourth Marines, the Seaforth Highlanders, and the East Surreys participated in the guard duty and searches in addition to the Shanghai Municipal Police, members of the Russian detachment of the B.V.C., and 8.M.P. (Specials) in the Settlement, while in the Concession French troops co-operated with the French Police.
