TWO-DAY WHITSUN MEETING STARTS TO-MORROW
BAN ON WINNERS MEANS FEWER ENTRIES IN TWO MAJOR EVENTS
(By "Captain Foster")
The Bondi Handicap for Australian subscrip- tion ponios of any season, the Whitsun Handicap for China Ponies (subscription griffins of this season) and the Whitsun Plato, a handicap for China ponies, are the big events of the Whitsun Meeting to be held to-morrow and to be continued on Monday at Happy Valley.
I cannot be said that very good entries have been received for these three classics owing to the Van placed on winners in two major events, but the nominations for the minor con- iests among the Australian and China panies of various classes have been very minfactory and we are sure to have some nice Beld of good "D" clana rncern and under.
it may not be known that this auspices of the meeting under the Hongkong Jockey Club is the penul- timate of a series of slx extras be fore the races, the last session being scheduled to take place on June 10. The provision of barring winnera, rightly or wrongly, has always been known among the racing family as the only means et giving other own cru a chance of making some money to provide for e
keep of their ponies and in the circumstance the public idols Buch ELK Lancashire Chips, Lucky Lad and Hose Elect will not be seen in action ugain until after the resumption.

AUSTRALIAN TENNIS TOUR OF S. AFRICA.
At a recent meeting of the New South Wales Lawn Tennis Association, correspondence was rend dealing with the suggested tour of South Africa by an Australian team. The invitation from South Africa was for a team of two men and four women or five women.
The Lawn Tennis Association of Australia thought it would be better to send team of four men and two women or four men,
The president of the State association, Mr. B. C. Fuller, pointed out that this did not coincide with South Africa's wishes. He read a lotter from the Queensland association which stated that if the team left Australia În August it would Interfere with the Australian hardcourt championships, which will be held at Icewoomba from July 31 to August 6, and also with the Queensland championships. Mr. Fuller emphasised that this period would not sult New South Wales.
It was decided to favour a team of two men and four women, to leave in February. The State delegates will be instructed to support this when the maller comes before the Lawn Tennis Association of Austrailo for consideration.
The 1940 Australian championships will begin on January 20, amounted to £1,300.
