The tennis exhibitions given yesterday by Amado Sanchez and Felicisimo Ampon were thoroughly enjoyable, without being tremendously impressive-judged by Davis Cup standards. But the Filipinos had a real excuse for not striking par form. Buffeted by the angry China Sea for a couple of days, they landed yesterday afternoon still feeling decidedly shaky, and walked straight on to the Hongkong Cricket Club, stand court, a type of surface which is strange to them.

Season

Failing to beat the Royal Navy last Saturday, the South China A.A. had to call upon Leo Wai- tong to turn out at centro-forward in their decid- ing Kotewall Cup match against the sailors at Caroline Hill yesterday afternoon and won by four goals to one..

As the proceeds of the Kotowall Cup competition go to charity, yesterday's game was useful in that quite a sizeable sum must have been realised; but purely as an exhibition, of soccer, or even as a stepping stone towards better football relationship between the Navy and the Chinese, one doubts whether it was worth while.

Starting of quite promisingly, the worse. The Navy right back lost his match deteriorated as it progressed femper and butted Yeung Shul-yick and tempers became so frayed in the | in, the face with his head for which second half that Hendy, the right he was given marching orders.

For the deterioration of the play, I am afraid the ocial in charge of the game must take his due share of the blame. Some of his decisions were dimcult to understand, and a fow of the players became rather rattled as a result.

GLOOM OVER GAME The Hendy Incident cast a gloom over the rest of the match, and the subsequent play was a deplorable way of seeing out the 1830-39 soccer sensor

Shortly afterwards Lal Shlu-wing. added the fourth goal for tho Chinese, and this was the end of the scoring.

1

Play became very ragged and it must have been a relief to all con- cerned when the final whistle was blown.

As the result of this victory, the Chinese have won all the football competitions in the 1938-30 season. They have carried off the League, the Shield, the Lai Wah Cup, the Sunday Herald International Com- petition and now the Kotowall Cup.
