Líno A deep baking-tin with greased paper. Melt lb. mor garina in Baucepan and add 1 lb. golden syrup, 6 oz. Demerara suger,
pint milk, and 1 tablespoon orange. marmalade.
Stir the mixture over a slow heat til the sugar is dissolved. Sift into a large bowl 8 oza, self-raising flour, 8 ozs. wholemeal flour,
teaspoons ground ginger, 2 teaspoons fixed spice, a pinch of cayenne pepper and
teaspoon bl-carbonate of sodn Mix these well together and make a well in the centre.
Beat up 3 cags, and pour. Into centre of dry ingredients. "Add the cooled mixture of syrup, &c. Beat thoroughly, so that everything is well blended. Pour mixture
into pre- pared tin and bake in a moderato ovou 14 hours. (Regulo mark 4.) Tum on to sieve to cool,

Take 1⁄4 lb, margarine or butter, and cream with 4 lb. sifted icing sugar. Add the yolk of an egg with a little milk-then add another ib. icing sugar mixed with 1⁄2 tea- spoon cach of cinnamon, ground cloves, and nutmeg. Beat thorough- ly together. Split open cake when cold and press on icing evenly with knife. Dredge top of cake with icing sugar.
