As matches in the European Zone of the Davis Cup com- petition are now in progress, the following article on the prospects of the United Staten, holders of the trophy, should be of interest. The Challenge Round will be played in September and the Ameri- can authorities are already making preparations for the en- counter.

New York, April 7. Walter Pate, the 'little man who led the Davis Cup back to these shores two years ago, has issued a clarion call for volunteers to step one pace to the fore and lend a hand in retaining the famous trophy.
