Small-Town Doctor

Made Great Discovery

This is the story of the life and death of an unknown country doctor, Few people outside of Dorict ever heard of him. He was never famous, never wealthy. But in his will he reveals the dividends of a wonderful discovery. His discovery-that kinduess begets, kindness.

GILLINGHAM (Dorset).

SIXTY-YEAR-OLD Dr. Arthur Walker, who loved his dog so much that he wanted to b buried in the grave where it already lay at the bottom of his garden, and who loved his patients so much that he gave them money when they could not pay their bills, has shown in his will published in Gillingham recently that he found the world a pleasant place full of "kind people."

Dr. Walker was the most popular doctor in Gillingham for thirty-two years, He left estate of the gross value of only £7,430.

In each of six bequests which he made to friends he tells that he found "Kindness, loyalty, devotion, sympathy.” -

He left £2,000 "for her great kindness shown to me" to the middle-aged clergyman's widow, Mrs. Dorothy Barrett, who was his house-keeper after his wife's death in 1933:

To his closest friend, a local chemist, Mr. Auberon Herbert, "for

wonderful help and kindness," £260;

Tu former maldservant, Ethel Francis, £50 for “great kindness and devotion;"

To

Sister Françes Brown, who nursed his wife, £100 for "deya- | tlon, sympathy and kindness”,

To his gardener Arthur Young Nor

devoted and skilful help," £50. And even to hą odd-joh man, John

Alger, £25 for "loyal and devoted service."
