BECK'S FIRM HITLER'S
REPLY DEMANDS
The eagerly awaited speech to the Polish Parliament by Colonel Beck, the Polish Foreign Minister, was delivered yester- day, giving a clear reply to the German proposals and actiona as Indicated in Herr Hitler's speech last week.
The speech indicated that Poland intends to stand by her rights, but at the same time is prepared to enter into negotiations with Germany provided the latter is prepared to enter discus- slons with the object of finding a peaceful solution.
The statement was short, and indicated a clear-sighted and moderate attitude towards the questions of Danzig and the Polish Corridor.
The suggestion in France that she cannot be expected to Support Poland in her "exaggerated claims" with regard to Danzig and the Corridor are flatly denied in Paris. The first reactions from England and Paris indicate that the speech by Beck is considered fair and moderate. Herr Hitler is reported to be discussing the speech with his ministers, while indications are that Italy may try to fill the role of mediator.
