Hongkong Fencer Represents Bertrand's

F.J.T. LOCKE DOES WELL WITH EPEE IN POLONIA CUP MATCH

Fencers in Hongkong will be deeply interested to learn that Mr. F. J. T. Locke, of the Public Works Department, and an enthusiastic fencer, was recently selected to represent Salle Bertrand, probably the oldest Salle d'Armes in England, in the Polonia Cup Competition. Mr. Locke is now on holiday in England.

The trophy for the competition was presented to the AF.A. by the Polish Fencing Association

for an Inter-

national three-weapon team contest. The British Salles and clubs entered are now reduced to four, who will compete with the foreign teums at Bertrand's on May 20 and 21, these being the Salle Bertrand, Salle Poul, London Fencing Club and Lansdowne Club.

Mr. Locke is quite an old member of the Sulle Bertrand, but this is, the irst time that he has represented them with the epee. Apart from the Polonia Cup Competition, Mr. Locke was also chosen to represent Bert- rand's with the epee in a three wea pon match in the Nairn Cup, which IN

trophy that has been fought for each year for 20 years by teams of ture one follist, une epeelst and one sabreur, from each of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Salle Bertrand and the Sabre Club.

ENTERS CHAMPIONSHIP

Mr. Locke has also been entered fur British epee champlor:ship in lot of June. He has been doing fencing in the Cerele Militaire in direction of the Paris under the Multre Dodivers, who is the father of Fencing Professors in France.

In the Round of the Polonia Cup Competition, Bertrand's beat Muc Donald's 14-4, and in the second round beat Polytechnic by the same

score.

French Players Called Up

Paris: May 3.

The two French Davis Cup tennis players. Petra and Pelizza, have been called up for military service and will probably not be able to partici- pate in the first elimination

round which is to be played on May 18. They belong to the 24th infantry regiment, which according to Petit Parisien, has been assigned to duty on the Spanish frontier. Trans- Ocean,
