INDO-CHINA RIOT Annamites' Attack On Chinese Colony

Hanol, Apr. 26, The reported unfriendly sentiments between Chinese and Annamese in French Indo-China reached a climax when about 1,000 Annamese colliers stormed a Chinese community in- cluding about 100 houses of Chinese workers and merchants at Hatuh, on the eastern coast of Tonkin on April 23.

Reportedly originating in a quarrel Annamese between children, the launched a mob attack on the Chinese village and looted and set fire to a house after house.

Police forces were called out and over 20 Annamese were arrested. Dome!.

At 6 a.m. yesterday Mr. P. A Yvanovitch, of Soares Avenue, Ho- muntin, woke his sons and a nephew, and together they chased a man who had been loitering in the garden. As 'a_result, Leung Woh, 30, was arrest- ed.

Yesterday Leung appeared before Mr. E. Himsworth at Kowloon Magis- tracy charged with loitering and was sentenced to three months" hard la- bour. He had two previous convic- ttons for larceny and one for breach of the Deportation Ordinance.

Mr. Yvanovitch said his wife saw Leung trying the windows in the kitchen and servants' quarters.

Leung was also charged with breach of the Deportation Ordinance and was sentenced to nine months', hard labour.on this count. He was expelled for 10 years in August 1020.
