ERIC BOON BACK IN ENGLAND
Keen To Make
'Business'
Trip To U.S. A.
London, Mar. 28.
British light-weight champion Eric Boon and his inseparable companion Horry Silver, the Clapton feather- weight, were all smiles when greeted at Waterloo last evening on their arrival home from a four weeks' holiday in America.

the conquering of the United States
They are sure that they could "clean up" on the other side of the Atlantic if only they were released from the managerial leash. Genial Jack Solomons, looking all the better for his vacation, bearned with delight as he listened to the chatter of his charges, and said that American enthusiasts had made idols of them.
"Silver boxed badly in his contest in Newark; he was too eager,” de- clared Solomons "yet the news- papers next day said he was an un- crowned champion."
INJURED HAND
Boon has been studying form in New York gyinnasia, and his im- pression is that there are few, it any, men of his weight on the other side of the Atlantic whom he could not beat.
"St, Louis With Dorothy Lamour and Lloyd Nolan in the leading roles, Paramount's new romance, Blues," is now showing simultaneously at the Queen's and Alhambra Theatres. Apart from the theme song. there are several other catchy tunes,

Hammond's Hope In Farewell
"As far as I am concerned, I hope this is the last timeless Test to be played between South Africa and England," declared Wally Hammond, England's captain, in a fare- well message before leaving South Africa.
Hammond added that mat- ches and tours between South Africa and England should be more frequent and he thought the Springboks team to tour England next year would be very strong.
His final words were about the wickets. "The grounds and wickets here are exceed-" ingly good and that of the Wanderers is perhaps the best. ground upon which I have ever played."

A Big Loss To Rugby: In Scotland
Edinburgh, Mar. 27,
B. W. Shaw, Glasgow High School. (F.P.), has decided to retire from Rugby. The Evening Dispatch learns that Shaw has played his last game. Shaw first came into prominence as a member of the school team. and subsequently when he joined the FP. club he developed into one of the finest three-quarters Scotush Rugby has produced for many years.
Although by no means gjent physically, he is one of the most fear. less and determined tacklers in the game. Like the great player he is, however, he did not rely, wholly on his defensive play for his SUCCESS. He was equally outstanding as an at- tocking back, and it is perhaps in that capacity that he will best be re- membered.

Shaw, who has walked into every Scottish team since he was first hon- oured in 1934, has been remurkabiy free from accidents. For years con- troversy raged between rival schools uf opinion as to whether his real position was centre, wing, or stand-
off.
Shaw is by no means a veteran, but he had been in the thick of first class Rugby for some six years now, and in the past season or two he has found it more difficult than formerly to devote the time to the game which calls on his services demanded.
The Evening Dispatch understands that his brother, Ian Shaw, also in- tends retiring from the game. Glas- How Rugby, in fact, may be without other prominent players before the new season comes round. I. E. WH- kle, of Hillhead, has played his last game for Hillhead, and there is talk of members of other Glasgow teams also retiring,
