New Chinese Successes In Big Honan Drive
CHUNGKING, Apr. 16.-Chinese military reports claim the capture of Hsuting, 20 miles east of Kaifong, as a result of the recent Chinese offensiva around Kalfang.
The reports stated that the Japanese have abandoned plans to construct a railway connecting Hsinhsiang and Kai- feng owing to the Chinesa offensive.
It is further claimed that because of the ceaseless guerilla activity the Japanese have given up work on the now railway which would have connected the northern section of the Peiping-Hankow railway with Kaifong-United Press,

Canton Hears Guns Boom
CANTON, the metropolis of Kwangtung Province and China's second largest city, has suddenly become the focal point in the great Chinese counter-offensive along
a warfront extending through five provinces.
Following the re-capture of Tsengshing, 35 miles
north-east of the City of Rams, a Chinese offensive has now been lodged against the capital itself.
The booming of artillery is now distinctly audible in Shameen, the Anglo-French Concession in the city.
Last night it was reported that a strong Chinese force attacking from the direction of Kuntien had succeeded in cross- Ing Sainam Creek in the face of withering Japanese machine-gun fire, and had reached a point within twelve miles of Canton itself.
Japanoso Retiring
The Japanese opposing the Chinese advance from Kuntien have with- drawn, to Canton's outer defences of pill-boxes at Sunkai, which is only ten miles from Shameen.

cast, following the capture on Satur- day of the strategically important city of Trongshing. This force Is
