RULER OF RAJKOT CRITICISED

The Times of India strongly con- demus the Rajkot State authorities, indicting them for having brought on the whole trouble of Mr. Gandhi's fast, which is regretted as coercive. The paper says:

"The Thakore Sahlb of Rajkot has changed his advisers as often as he has changed his mind, and the settlement of whai at first was n fairly simple problem between the ruler and his subjects became the subject for mass Intrigues, which Mr. Gandhi rightly denounces.”

LULL IN BUILDING ACTIVITY

After a long period of unusual activity in the building, industry in New South Wales caused by the expansion of manufacturing Indus- tries and the operations of building societies, there is now a full.

This has been caused partly by the Increased costa of building materials and partly from a shortage of loan funds in the hands of building so- cieties due to the raising of Common- wealth loans.

Artisans in the building trade are now going to New Zealand in fairly large numbers, as there is a shortage of skilled labour there.

The Association of Co-Operative Building Societies learns that about £3,000,000 of lown money on sult- able terms could be made available by English financial Institutions, but this awaits legislation under which the State Government will guarantee repayment of principal and interest. NEW ZEALAND
