Mackinnon, Mackenzie and Co. of Hongkong to their office in Kobe, asking them to explain fully the nature of the inquiries that had been instituled to prove that the telegram in question was not sent by any member of the staff.

Two cables were received in reply and these said that the telegram was definitely not sent by any member of the staff, European or otherwale, nor with their authority,

They also pointed out that the telegram was on a form not used by the office and that the нале Mag- kinnon, Mackenzie was in the body. of the draft and not at the foot as signature.
