UPSET CAUSED BY PORTUGUESE

Losers Play Below Par While Winners Excel

(By "Abo")

If any pair doserve to win their match in the current Colony Tennis Championships, they were A. V. Gosano and J. J. Remedics. They did win finally against W. C. Hung and E. C. Fincher, but made the task vory hard for themselves and con. sequently three sets had to be played before a decision could be roached,

The result may be clasifled un au upset. However, on the day's play there could not have been any other result.

Gosano and Remedios, on the whole, displayed better tennia, and though Fincher and Hung at certain

stages were playing well, never for any sustained period did they produce their usual form.

Actually, Gosano and Remedois. after winning the first ut 0-3, should have won the second ni 0-4. Load- Ing 6-4 and 40-15, they failed to win the necessary point; and agafa Inter in the set they led 8-7 and 40-15, only to be pulled back once again.

As long as they were not within sight of victory, they seemed all right; but once they had got to with- in one or wo points of the set ind matel, they seemed to be mes- merised. Twice they threw up short lobs for Hung to kill, and on two other occasions when they got to they lost

These instances apart, however, Gosano and Remedios played ex- tremely well. The latter was par- ticularly good, especially nt the. start when he won many points un his own with his terrific services and wholehearted overhead play. But at times he was very erratie indeed.
