Ex-Warder Tom Martin, who befriended Oscar Wilde in Reading Gaol, lies to-day, ill and shrunken, in the Poor Law-Institution in Norwick.

He was discharged from his job years ago for giving some biscuits to an 11-years old boy prisoner. Hla writings, particularly in appealing for humane prison methods, after- wards won him many friends.

Now this grey-haired man of 68 is known as Tom Martin of Number 6 ward.

He had a stroke recently, and, for a tine could not move. Gradually

his faculties are returning.
