Brody returned to Chust, his new capital, only to find that he had been superseded. His successor was Volo- Bin, anorthodox priest.

The Germans sent this material to the Czech Government, which nt once ordered Brody's arrest, Next day one of the first aeroplanes which took off from the new aerodrome of Chust carried the first Premier of Carpatho-Ukraine as a prisoner of the Czech police to Prague.

Accused of corruption and high treason, he was expected to be given a severe sentence. The Germans pressed hard for him to be con- demned to death. But when the Christmas amnesty came, Brody was

released.
